Buying coffee in bulk—whether it’s a big bag from Costco or a 5-pound bag from your favorite roaster—is a smart way to save money and ensure you will always have plenty of beans on hand. But this comes with one major challenge: keeping that large stash fresh. That’s where the 5LB Coffee Reserve bundle from Planetary Design comes in, offering a convenient, airless coffee storage solution for preserving your coffee’s flavor and aroma for longer.

Why Bulk Coffee Buying Deserves Better Storage

Purchasing coffee in 5-pound quantities is economical and reduces the need for frequent trips to the store; however, the freshness of your coffee starts to degrade as soon as it’s exposed to air. Exposure to oxygen quickly robs your beans of their rich flavor and aroma. Without the right storage, even top-quality coffee won’t stay fresh for long.

Meet the 5LB Coffee Reserve Airscape® Kilo Canister Set

The 5LB Coffee Reserve set includes two Airscape® Kilo Coffee Canisters, each with a 2.5-pound capacity, perfect for buying all your coffee at once and storing it properly. Split your bulk haul with intention: enjoy fresh coffee from one canister right away, while the other stays sealed and preserved with an upgraded inner lid until you’re ready.

And while they’re designed with coffee in mind, these canisters are also ideal for keeping brown sugar, flour, white sugar, and other pantry dry goods fresh, making them a versatile addition to any kitchen.

  • Airscape® Patented Plunger Lid: Our original Airscape® plunger lid actively preserves freshness by pushing air out of the canister. When pressed down, the patented inner lid forces out excess oxygen, while its two-way valve locks in flavor and aroma and vents naturally occurring CO₂. Unlike standard airtight containers, this innovative design actively protects your coffee from oxidation and staleness.

  • Fresh-Port® Inner Lid Upgrade with Airgone® Argon Gas: The upgraded Fresh-Port® inner lid takes freshness even further. The built-in port lets you introduce inert gas, like argon (with the included Airgone® canister), to create an oxygen-free barrier that keeps your beans in peak condition for longer-term storage. The lid also features a degassing valve to release CO₂ without letting oxygen back in.

With the 5LB Coffee Reserve, you can enjoy one canister of fresh coffee now and confidently store the rest, both protected with our cutting-edge Airscape® technology.

How to Use Airgone® Argon Gas for Maximum Freshness

For best results with Airgone®, follow these simple steps:

  1. Detach the red straw from the Airgone® can before inserting it into the Fresh-Port® valve.

  2. Hold the straw near the end being inserted and apply gentle pressure until it stands alone.

  3. Attach the Airgone® can to the other end of the straw.

  4. Administer a 2-second flush to displace the oxygen inside the canister.

Over time, the Fresh-Port® valve “wears in,” making it easier to flush out oxygen and maintain freshness. To speed this process, carefully poke the blunt end of a paperclip through the valve to slightly widen it without compromising the silicone seal.

What’s Included in the 5LB Coffee Reserve Bundle?

  • 2 × Airscape® Kilo Coffee Canisters (2.5 lbs capacity each)

  • 1 × Fresh-Port® Kilo Inner Lid

  • 1 × Airgone® Argon Gas Can (good for up to 150 two-second flushes)
