Airscape® technology features a patented plunger lid designed to fit snugly against the inside of the tea and coffee canisters. As the Airscape® lid is pressed down, the oxygen is forced out through a two-way valve. Small holds 10oz/250gr of whole bean coffee.
Medium holds 1lb/500gr of whole bean coffee.
Oxygen is bad for coffee because it causes oxidation, which can lead to the coffee going stale and losing its flavor and aroma. Oxidation is a chemical process where oxygen reacts with the compounds in coffee, breaking them down and creating new compounds that are less desirable in terms of taste and aroma.
Thus the importance of storing in an airtight container.
The Inner Lid that comes with the Airscape does not burp the naturally occurring C02 of coffee, but C02 is released every time you open your container.
However, you can buy the Fresh-Port™ Airscape® Inner Lid which burps C02 automatically!
Yes you can, but you may want to read our blog about storing coffee in the fridge/ freezer here before you do so.
Yes, ground coffee and other dry goods can be stored in an Airscape® coffee canister.
Yes you can (on top shelf of the dishwasher). But we highly recommend hand-washing to prolong the life of your product. The Airscape® inner lid should always be gently hand-washed and let out to air-dry.

These containers are awesome! I have both the medium and small sizes, and I will say the small size holds just about a half-pound of coffee beans, but for a regular size bag of coffee I’d get the medium since the inner lid goes down to however much is in the canister. They stack nicely for my pantry, and keep my coffee beans and brown sugar super fresh! I can definitely tell a difference from just keeping the beans in the bag, or a regular airtight jar – the beans smell fresher for much longer, and I can taste the improvement in my french-press brewed coffee. Love it!

I was a bit skeptical at first, but I’m now satisfied the Airscape keeps coffee beans fresh for quite some time. Since I keep beans in my pantry for almost a month, I now use the large Airscape to hold my main stock and a small Airscape for daily use. This means fewer openings of my main stock which stays fresh longer as a result. Very satisfied, even weeks after, I get fresh tasting coffee that retains its natural froth and gases.

I’ve tried the Airscape (Medium) size for a couple months now. The aesthetic is awesome, paint, finish, materials. I like the bottom cushion to protect the airscape and delicate surfaces. The mechanism to seal air is easy to use. The con is that it doesn’t seem to keep my coffee beans fresh for longer than a week and a half or so. A 1 lb. bag of coffee usually lasts me a month or so, and I notice the smell changes after a week and a half to two weeks or so. The taste is still pretty good, but not as fresh as when I bought/opened the coffee. I may be looking to an Atmos to store my larger quantity of whole beans, then but a smaller Airscape to hold my grinds when I travel, since I think the Airscape will not clog when used with grinds.

Hi Gabriel, thanks for your feedback. If you are opening this canister often throughout the month of storage to get your daily coffee beans, it’s natural that frequent exposure to oxygen will affect the freshness of the beans. Switching to a vacuum canister wouldn’t solve this issue; our better-than-airtight airless storage system actively pushes remaining oxygen from the canister. We recommend using a smaller Airscape for your weekly coffee use, so that the beans you are storing for up to a month aren’t exposed as frequently to oxygen and remain fresher longer. Alternatively, it could be that the seal on the lid isn’t working properly. We would be happy to send you a replacement lid!

By far the best storage containers in the market for storing coffee beans. I am obsessed with these containers and have ordered several in the medium and kilo sizes. I plan to replace all of my plastic storage containers with the Airscape containers. They are also great for storing tea, oatmeal, nuts and even keeps cookies fresher longer without going stale. I wish Planetary Design would make the same containers in a square design in addition to the round ones which would be ideal to store in smaller kitchen pantries.

I have a small Airscape Classic. With use, the rubber seal has detached from the inner lid (the one with a handle). I tried to replace the air seal and now the inner lid is almost impossible to push in one direction. I need instructions on how to reset the rubber seal. HELP me enjoy my airscape.

These do a great job of keeping my coffee beans fresh. I recently started roasting my own beans, and bought a different brand canister, one with a one-way valve to de-gas, to house them. I also bought some one-way valved coffee bags. I noticed the coffee in the bags soon tasted fresher than the coffee in the canisters. I did some research, and read that even with the valve, there is still air (oxygen) trapped in the canister. This is detrimental to the freshness of the beans. With the bags, I was able to roll them up and squeeze the air out when closing them up. Hence the improved freshness. Bags are about $1 apiece, and even though they can be reused a few times, this adds up. Plus, the Airscape canisters are stackable, and much more decorative. Really like this option.

I just received the Airscape Classic, washed with warm soap and water as recommended. The next morning, after the canister was thoroughly dry, I poured in the coffee beans, added the inner lid, then followed with the top lid. That’s it gang, I can’t write anymore because I just started using it!. My suggestion would be a delay in product delivery vs request for review.

I love these canisters. I have 2 for the 1 lb quantity. The oldest one now has a canister lid that is easy to lower but nearly impossible to raise up. I don’t know what happened but it’s a mighty challenge to open. How do I fix it?

I was impressed by this one, so I ordered another, unfortunately they use FedEx the only delivery service less dependable than the original Pony Express. Been on the way 8 days now. Great product, but was disappointed when my container arrived with a logo dominating one side for some random coffee company. When ordering, based on the pic, I expected a solid color with a small airscape logo at the bottom, not free promotional material for a company I don’t know or endorse. I love how simple the Airscape Classic is to use and maintain. I own other products that may arguably do a better job of removing air, but the complicated mechanisms in them are prone to issues and require more effort to use and maintain. All gaskets will eventually degrade/absorb smells over time, and knowing that I have the option to order replacements (barring any supply chain issues) gives me peace of mind. I will be replacing the remainder of my coffee storage with additional Airscape Classics soon.

These are designed and work brilliantly. First and most important to me, very minimal plastic. They work as intended, keeping air out no matter how much is left in the canister. The rubber foot is smaller in diameter than the body, so they stack perfectly, won’t slide around, and are quiet first thing in the morning. I highly recommend and look forward to the day they’re zero plastic.

I discovered these containers on a recent vacation, when we bought one as part of a package with the coffee beans. It is such a great way to store the beans and keep them fresh and organized. As soon as we got home, I ordered more and moved my other coffee beans from the bags closed with tape into the containers. I’ve been putting the label from the bag between the top and inner lids so I know what’s in there. Now my cupboard is cleaner and my coffee stays fresh until I’m ready to use it. And the vibrant colors are just an added bonus!

I’ve been using my medium canister for over a year and now have a small that I use for both bulk and for when I grind my own (if you buy large bags or grind, do yourself a favor and get two). These canisters do a great job keeping my coffee fresh and are much better than the bags (ever pop a bag seam squeezing the air out at 4am when you’re in a hurry to get to work?).
