French Press What?

People all over the country and the world start their day off with their favorite cup of coffee, and more and more these people are discovering the benefits of French Press coffee.  Often, their first cup is followed by one or two more.  Coffee and tea are among the most popular drinks in the world, and rightly so.  For thousands of years, coffee has evolved little but there are some pretty cool and useful products on the market.  From insulated coffee mugs to stainless steel drinkware, there’s no shortage of coffee paraphernalia.

Many people don’t know what a French Press is, let alone know how to use it.  So, what is it?  A French Press refers to the device used to make coffee.  It’s often referred to as a Press Pot or Plunger Pot and all you need to make an excellent cup of French Press coffee is the  coffee and hot water.  When making coffee with a French Press, you’ll be best served to use a medium to coarse grind so that the filter in the press can push the grounds to the bottom without getting clogged or obstructed.

The temperature of the water when making this style of coffee is critical.  The ideal temperature for the water is between 195 and 200 degrees Fahrenheit.  If it’s any hotter, it’ll burn the grounds.  It only takes about 3 to 5 minutes to brew, too, so it’s fast and convenient.  Plus, there’s no filter involved like a traditional drip coffee maker that removes many of the antioxidants and flavor of the coffee.
